Sergeant Major Monroy was born on 14 February 1985 in Turlock, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 25 August 2003 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon Completion, he received training at Marine Combat Training School (MCT), Camp Pendleton, California. Following MCT, he reported to Personnel Administration School, Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he earned the MOS of 0121.
In March 2004, Sergeant Major Monroy reported to Group Personnel Administration Center, Marine Aircraft Group 16 (MAG-16), 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. In June 2004, Sergeant Major Monroy was assigned to Headquarters Squadron, Personnel Support Detachment, MAG-16 (Rein). While assigned to this command, Sergeant Major Monroy deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sergeant Major served as the S-1 NCOIC. Sergeant Major Monroy was meritoriously promoted to Corporal on 2 March 2005. Shortly after returning from deployment Sergeant Major Monroy received Fleet Assistance Program orders to Shore Patrol, Southwest Region, Naval Station San Diego, California, where he was the Marine Liaison at the border crossing between southern California and Mexico. In July 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
In January 2008, he participated in a 13 month deployment with MAG-16 (Rein) to Al Asad, Iraq. While deployed, Sergeant Major served as Adjutant/S-1 NCOIC, a Squad Leader with the Anti-Terrorism Force Protection and the Color Sergeant for MAG-16 ( Rein). In July 2009, Sergeant Major Monroy received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Depot San Diego, California. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, Kilo Company, where he served as Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In April 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. While assigned to Support Battalion he served as the Academics Instructional Platoon (AIP) SNCOIC.
In October 2013, Sergeant Major Monroy reported to Headquarter and Support Battalion, Alpha Company, Installation Personnel Administration Center (IPAC), Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as SNCOIC of Wounded Warrior IPAC Remote and Customer Service Support Section. In June 2015, Sergeant Major Monroy reported to Site Support Transportation Support Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 23, Lathrop, California, where he served as Administration Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and I&I First Sergeant. In December 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. In June 2018, Sergeant Major Monroy reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167, Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, New River, North Carolina, where he served as Administration Chief.
In May 2020, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and, reported to Company B, 1st Battalion 8th Marines, where he served as the Company First Sergeant. He deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, where he participated in the Noncombatant Evacuation Operations, at the North Gate, Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, Afghanistan, in support of Freedom Sentinel.
In July 2022, Sergeant Major Monroy reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 4, Marine Air Control Group 18, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Air Traffic Control Company K until January 2023. In April 2024 he was assigned as the acting Sergeant Major and Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Air Control Squadron 4 until July 2024.
In February 2025 he was promoted to his current rank of Sergeant Major. In May 2025 Sergeant Major Monroy reported to his current unit Recruiting Station Orange County, 12th Marine Corps District located in Santa Ana, CA where he serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
Sergeant Major Monroy's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Combat Distinguishing Device and Gold Star in lieu of fourth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Gold Star in lieu of third award), and various other Service and Campaign medals.
