LtCol Matthew A. Krempel

Lieutenant Colonel Matthew A. Krempel was born in Berwyn, Illinois. He holds a Bachelor of Science in History, from Marquette University. He was commissioned via the NROTC program in May 2008. In July, he reported to The Basic School. Lieutenant Colonel Krempel was designated as an infantry officer and in April 2009, he attended the Infantry Officers Course.

In July 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Krempel was assigned to 2d Battalion, 9th Marines at Camp Lejeune. During his time with 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, he served as Platoon Commander, Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion Operations Officer. Lieutenant Colonel Krempel deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom during his time with 2d Battalion, 9th Marines.

Departing 2d Battalion, 9th Marines in 2012. Lieutenant Colonel Krempel was assigned to be the Aide-De-Camp for the Deputy Commander Security Force Assistance, II MEF Forward where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Upon completion of his Aide-De-Camp tour, Lieutenant Colonel Krempel was assigned as the Future Operations Planner at 4th Marine Regiment Okinawa, Japan. Upon completion of his tour in Okinawa he was selected to attend Maneuver Captains Career Course in Fort Benning, Georgia.

In August of 2016, Lieutenant Colonel Krempel was assigned as Company Commander, Echo Company, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines and in November 2017, he deployed to Okinawa Japan in support of Unit Deployment Program 18.1.

Upon return from deployment in April 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Krempel was assigned as the Company Commander for Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Company Europe in Rota, Spain. While assigned to the unit, he completed a Masters Degree in Business Administration through Naval Post Graduate School. Lieutenant Colonel Krempel took charge of Recruiting Station Portland in June 2021.

Lieutenant Colonel Krempel's personal decorations include the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
