Major Brian Berling was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from the University of Cincinnati. He was commissioned via the Officer Candidates Course program in 2012. Following Officer Candidates School, he attended the Basic School and Logistics Officer Course.
In July 2013, Major Berling was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division. During his time with Headquarters Battalion, he served as motor transport platoon commander and company executive officer. In 2016, Major Berling deployed to Iraq in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE as a member of I MEF Advise and Assist Team 16.1. Upon returning from Iraq, Major Berling reported to the 1st Marine Division G-4 where he filled the role of Assistant Operations Officer.
From 2017 to 2020, Major Berling served as an Officer Selection Officer at Recruiting Station Springfield, 1st Marine Corps District. Following his tour on recruiting duty, he attended resident Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia.
In 2021, Major Berling reported to 3d Transportation Battalion in Okinawa, Japan where he served as company commander for two years. Following company command, Major Berling assumed the role of battalion operations officer at Combat Logistics Battalion 12.
Major Berling’s personal decoration include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
