Sergeant Major Andrew W. Brown

Sergeant Major Brown enlisted in the Marine Corps in Vancouver, Washington and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California in August 2005. Following completion of MCT he attended MOS school at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina.

In June 2006, Sergeant Major Brown received orders to MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 223, where he served as an AV8B II Airframes Mechanic. In May 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In February 2007, he received orders to Marine Headquarters Group Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he trained and served as a Machine Gunner for a deployment to Iraq as part of a Police Transition Team 22A. In June 2007 he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq training the Iraq Highway Patrol across Al Anbar Province. In January 2008 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal while serving in Iraq.

In March 2008 Sergeant Major Brown returned to VMA-223, and again deployed in May, 2008 on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Air Frames Division NCOIC. In April 2009 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In September 2009 Sergeant Major Brown received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California. During his time at MCRD Sergeant Major Brown served as a Drill instructor for 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Company F, and as a Marine Corps Instructor Trainer of Water Survival with Support Battalion.

In May 2013 Sergeant Major Brown received orders back to VMA- 223, MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina where he served as the Airframes Division NCOIC and SNCOIC.

In November 2013 he received orders to Marine Attack Training Squadron 203 MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he served as the Airframes Division Chief. In April 2014 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In July 2016 Sergeant Major Brown received orders to MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina for his second tour as a Drill Instructor. He was assigned to both 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Company F, and 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Company K. In December 2017 he was promoted to the rank Gunnery Sergeant.

In July 2018 Sergeant Major Brown received orders to VMA 214, MCAS Yuma AZ, where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted, Quality Assurance Chief, and Airframes Division Chief. In April 2020, he deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

In April 2021, Sergeant Major Brown was Promoted to First Sergeant and received orders to 2d Battalion 3rd Marines, Where he served as the Unit Senior enlisted for Company E, and in June 2021, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program. In March 2022, Sergeant Major Brown transferred to 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, Detachment Hawaii and served as the Unit Senior Enlisted.

In April 2024 Sergeant Major Brown received orders to, Marine Air Control Squadron 1, MCAS Yuma. There he served as the Headquarters and & Support Company Unit Senior Enlisted.

In March 2025 Sergeant Major Brown was promoted to his current rank and received orders to Recruiting Station Portland Oregon, where he is currently serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor.

Sergeant Major Brown has an Associate Degree from American Military University. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of third award, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of third award.
