SgtMaj David J. Washington
Sergeant Major David J. Washington (RS Riverside)

SgtMaj Washington was born in Cleveland, Ohio, graduated high school, completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island in September 2002, followed by MCT, and the Basic Food Service School in Fort Lee, VA earning the MOS of 3381 Food Service Specialist.

January 2003 to April 2007 he served with H&S Company and Company I, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, in Kaneohe Bay, HI as a Cook on Watch, Chief Cook, and Police Sergeant. He deployed to Okinawa, Japan for the 31st MEU aboard the USS Essex (2003); Kunar Province, Afghanistan (2004); and Haditha, Iraq (2006).

April 2007, Sgt Washington reported to MCRD San Diego, CA and was assigned to Company I, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Company Operations Chief.

June 2010 SSgt Washington reported to CLB 11 and served as the Battalion Mess Chief deploying with the 11th MEU aboard the USS Pearl Harbor. Upon return, he received orders to Parris Island, SC October 2012 and was assigned to Companies C and D, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, serving as a Chief Drill Instructor, Battalion Operations Chief, and Company First Sergeant.

October 2014, GySgt Washington was transferred to Food Service School, Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Lee, VA where he served as an Instructor and Chief Instructor.

April 2016 1stSgt Washington reported to Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company A, 2D Assault Amphibian Battalion and deployed with Company A, 2D Reconnaissance Battalion/Maritime Raid Force, 26th MEU aboard the USS Iwo Jima.

April 2019, 1stSgt Washington reported to 1st Battalion, 12th Marines and served as the Battery 1stSgt for HQ Battery and Battery B where he deployed to 3d Bn, 12th Mar, Okinawa, Japan as the Forward Deployed Force.

January 2021, SgtMaj Washington reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 363, "The Lucky Red Lions" and deployed to Australia as the Aviation Combat Element of Marine Rotational Force Darwin.

19 December 2021, SgtMaj Washington reported to his current outfit as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major for Recruiting Station Riverside.

SgtMaj Washington's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/one silver star in lieu of sixth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ one gold star in lieu of second award, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon w/ one gold star in lieu of second award.
