Sergeant Major Gonzalez enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 2004. He completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, followed by Marine Combat Training at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and the Basic Radio Operator Course in Twentynine Palms, California, where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0621 Field Radio Operator.
In August 2004, Sergeant Major Gonzalez reported to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California. While serving with Battery C, he was attached to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, where he deployed in support of combat operations and served as a Watch Supervisor at Camp Hit, Iraq.
In June 2007, Sergeant Major Gonzalez deployed for a second time with Battery C, 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following this deployment, he attended Recruiter School in San Diego, California, graduating in October 2008.Upon graduation, Sergeant Major Gonzalez reported to Recruiting Sub-Station Santa Clarita, Recruiting Station Los Angeles, California. During his tour on recruiting duty, he distinguished himself by enlisting over 77 highly qualified young men and women into the Marine Corps and was named the 12th Marine Corps District Recruiter of the Year in 2011.
In December 2011, Sergeant Major Gonzalez reported to Bravo Company, 9th Communication Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as the Radio Chief. During this assignment, he deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012 and 2013, serving as the System Control Watch Officer.
In December 2014, Sergeant Major Gonzalez reported to Communication Company, Headquarters Regiment, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, as the Radio Chief and Communication Chief during multiple Command Post Exercises and Marine Expeditionary Brigade-level exercises.
In September 2016, Sergeant Major Gonzalez attended Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Following graduation, he served with India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, in the billets of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and later Company First Sergeant for Headquarters Company, Support Battalion.
Sergeant Major Gonzalez later reported to 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division, Pasadena, California, where he served as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant.
In December 2024, Sergeant Major Gonzalez reported to Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Alpha Company.
In June 2024, Sergeant Major Gonzalez reported to his current assignment at Recruiting Station Sacramento, where he presently serves as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Gonzalez’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon, and the Drill Instructor Ribbon.
He is married to Carol L. Gonzalez and is the proud father of Michael R. Gonzalez and Mateo C. Gonzalez.
