Sergeant Major Crane is from Billings, Montana and enlisted into the Marine Corps in 2004. He attended Marine Corps Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California in January 2004. Following graduations from boot camp, Marine Combat Training and occupational specialty school, Private First Class Crane was assigned to 3d Battalion 2d Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC as an administrative clerk. Sergeant Major Crane was promoted to Lance Corporal in October 2004 and deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2005 and 2006. Following his first deployment, in October 2005, he was promoted to Corporal and assigned as a squad leader for a company security team.
In April 2007, Sergeant Major Crane received orders to Headquarters Marine Corps, Office of the Deputy Commandant for Programs and Resources to serve as an administrative clerk. In January 2008, he was promoted to Sergeant and assumed the responsibilities as the Administrative Chief and Security Manager.
In January 2010, Sergeant Major Crane was assigned to Marine Corps Forces Central Command and served as the Administrative Chief to the Commander. In August 2010, Sergeant Major Crane graduated from American Military University with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science. In September 2010, he was selected from the below zone for promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant and subsequently promoted in July 2011.
In January 2012, Sergeant Major Crane was assigned to the Camp Lejeune IPAC serving as the Separations and Retirements Chief. Sergeant Major Crane served in this role from January 2012 to February 2013. In February 2013, he attended the Advanced Administrative Specialist Course, and returned to the IPAC in March 2013 to serve as the Personnel Orders Chief.
In May 2014, Sergeant Major Crane received orders back to Headquarters Marine Corps, this time serving as the Travel Chief to the Commandant of the Marine Corps. In April 2015, Sergeant Major Crane was hand selected to serve as the Executive Assistant for Administration to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In June 2015, he was selected for promotion to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and promoted in December 2015.
In August 2017, Sergeant Major Crane was assigned to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms IPAC and served as the Inbound Chief until April 2018. From April to June 2018, Sergeant Major Crane attended the resident Advance School earning a distinguished graduate designation. Following the Advance School, he returned to the IPAC to serve as the Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School IPAC Branch Staff Non-commissioned Officer-in-Charge. In December 2018, Sergeant Major Crane was selected for promotion to the rank of First Sergeant and assigned to the Marine Corps Communication-Electronic School to serve as the Bravo Company First Sergeant. In May 2019, Sergeant Major Crane was assigned to serve as the Communication Training Battalion Sergeant Major.
In March 2021, Sergeant Major Crane executed orders to 2d Battalion 11th Marines and assigned as the Battery First Sergeant, Battery G and subsequently deployed to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Upon returning from deployment, Sergeant Major Crane was assigned as the Headquarters Battery, 11th Marines Battery First Sergeant. In November 2022, Sergeant Major Crane was selected for promotion to the rank of Sergeant Major. In December, he was promoted to his current rank and was assigned as the Sergeant Major of 1st Battalion 11th Marines.
Sergeant Major Crane’s personal awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars; Navy and Marine Corps Accommodation Medal with one gold star, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with one silver star, and is authorized the Joint Staff Identification Badge for permanent wear.
