Sergeant Major Barton was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 2007 and underwent recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. In January 2008, she reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training. In February 2008, she transferred to Camp Johnson, North Carolina, to attend Enlisted Warehouse Basic Course where she earned the MOS 3051 and was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal.
In March 2008, Lance Corporal Barton reported to 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton, California, for duty with
Headquarters Battalion, H&S Company, Supply, where she was assigned as the personal effects Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC). In April 2009, she was promoted to the rank of Corporal and selected to play on the All-Marine Women Basketball Team. In August 2009, she received orders to Marine Security Guard School.
Corporal Barton was assigned to American Embassy San Salvador, El Salvador; The Hague, Netherlands; and Tirana, Albania. In January 2011, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In October 2012, she completed her Marine Security Guard tour successfully and reported to 1st Marine Logistic Group, Combat Logistic Regiment 17, H&S Company Supply.
In August 2013, she deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in support of WESTPAC 13-2 as a Female Engagement Team leader and Supply Admin Chief. In April 2014, she returned from deployment and shortly after attached to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion. She deployed with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF)-South 14 as the Supply Chief. In September 2014, she received Permanent Change of Assignment (PCA) orders to 1st Transportation Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group assigned as the Landing Support Company Supply Chief.
In April 2015 Sergeant Barton reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor duty. She was promoted to Staff Sergeant October 2016 and meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant October 2017. During her tour she served as an Experience Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and 4th Battalion Drill Master. She also was 2017 Drill Instructor of the Year. Upon completion of her tour in July 2018 she reported to 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group. Gunnery Sergeant Barton served as the Headquarter and Service Company First Sergeant for over a year. In June 2020, she deployed with SPMAGTF-21.1 as the Warehouse Chief.
In August 2021 , she was promoted to First Sergeant and assumed her duties as the squadron Sergeant Major for Marine
Tactical Air Control Squadron 38, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing. Once the squadron deactivated, First Sergeant Barton became Tactical Air Command Center (TACC) Company First Sergeant. In June 2022, she deployed with the 1 Ith MEIJ as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Rotational Force Southeast Asia (MRF-SEA). Once she returned from deployment, she was assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 as the acting Sergeant Major.
In December 2023 she transferred back to TACC Company to serve as the Company First Sergeant. In May 2025
Sergeant Major Barton joined her present unit, Recruiting Station Francisco, where she is currently serving as the
Recruiting Station Sergeant Major. Sergeant Major Barton's personal awards include Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Star in Lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star in Lieu of second award and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
